Police are conducting a thorough investigation to unmask and arrest the perpetrators behind the killing of a policeman in front of his burning house in Lamitan City, Basilan.

Chief Insp. Mohammad Abdulhalim, newly-installed Lamitan City police chief, identified the slain policeman as PO1 Basir Sangcopan, a resident of Maluso, Basilan.

Abdulhalim said Sangcopan was shot and killed around 6:30 p.m. Sunday in Barangay Limook, Lamitan City. The victim is an investigator at the Lamitan City Police Office.

Abdulhalim disclosed that prior to the incident, Sangcopan was pre-occupied in retrieving his belongings as the victim’s house caught fire.
