The city government of Zamboanga is set to commemorate the third year anniversary of the Zamboanga Siege on September 9.

Mayor Beng Climaco said in an interview that there will be several activities in line with the observance of the siege that left some 300 people dead and 1,000 houses burnt.

Activities will include the turnover of 79 permanent shelters to Internally Displaced Persons at Sta Barbara Christian Muslim Homeowners Association and 160 houses at Barangay Tulungatung and in the afternoon commemoration program will be done with wreath laying.

“Children of Hope” will also be given gifts. These children are those born on Sept 9, 2013. The City Social Welfare and Development together with the City Health Office will give the gifts to the children.

“Hende lang ta acaba el pelegia na guera…Tiene esperanza pormedyo del maga bata ya nase akel dia,” Climaco said,

The mayor compared the MNLF siege to the murder case of Mayor Cesar Climaco who is her uncle.

“El caso miyo Uncle Cesar hasta ahora nohay pa puede resolve. El realidad de justicia aki na Pilipinas ta dura. Mas de 30 año ya le ya despidi quien keda alegre si ansina sistema?” Climaco asked.

However she assured that during the time to sign and file the case against the Moro National Liberation Front she stood and fought for justice.

“We will be exhausting all available means within the mandate of the local government unit to really ensure that justice be done,” The mayor assured. — R.G. A A. Go
