The Lamitan city government has opposed the transfer of about 300 police scalawags from Manila to Basilan, based on a recent pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Lamitan city Mayor Rose Furigay said that the presence of performers in their area is vital considering the threats of terrorism and the drug menace in their locality.

Furigay said that the transfer of scalawags in their community will be an additional burden to the local government should it take place.

Last Tuesday, around 200 police scalawags stood in front of President Rodrigo Duterte as the latter threatened to transfer them to Basilan , Sulu and Tawi Tawi, areas with reported presence of terrorist threats.

Duterte gave an ultimatum of 15 days to be deployed to these areas or resign.

In an earlier statement, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Governor Mujiv Hataman opposed the proposal of bringing rogue cops to the ARMM.  (Allen Abastillas)
