A fiesta celebration in Bunguiao suddenly turned grim after a man was hacked to death by his father- in- law last Friday.

The fatality was identified as Joselito Rebollos y Bautista, married.

Rebollos was reportedly hacked by Orlando Fernandez y Zapanta, 55 years old, married and the victim’s father-in-law.

A police report disclosed that Fernandez was slaughtering cattle when Rebollos suddenly appeared and armed with a revolver, shot the former at close range.

The gun however failed to go off, allowing Fernandez to go after Rebollos with the bolo that he was holding.

Rebollos sustained multiple hack wounds in the body and died on the spot.

Fernandez meanwhile was arrested and was detained at the Sangali police station.

It was learned that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between Rebollos and his wife, the suspect’s daughter.

Fernandez reportedly tried to convince the couple to settle their misunderstanding.

Instead of heeding his father-in-law’s advice, Rebollos got the revolver of his own father and tried to shoot the suspect, a decision which led to the victim’s own death.  (Dan Toribio)
