The City Health Office is continuing its mass immunization for Diphtheria in barangay Cawit in an effort to contain the spread of the disease.

This after the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) confirmed the second case of Diphtheria in the city.

City Health Officer Dr. Rodel Agbulos identified the second Diphtheria case as a 4-year old boy from Zone 3 barangay Cawit.

The second victim is the brother of the 2- year old boy from Cawit who succumbed to the disease and became the first Diphtheria fatality in the city.

The latest victim is now confined at the Zamboanga City Medical Center and is presently under quarantine.

Meanwhile, the mass immunization is currently ongoing in Barangay Cawit, an area where an outbreak of Diphtheria was earlier declared by the city government.

Agbulos said that around 80% of targeted individuals have undergone immunisation.

Agbulos appealed to parents to have their children vaccinated to prevent them from getting the disease and prevent its potential spread.  (RGAAGo)
