The one-way scheme or the new traffic rerouting plan is still awaiting approval of Mayor Beng Climaco, therefore it will not be implemented tomorrow, February 15, as earlier reported, according to former city councilor Jawo Jimenez, designated traffic czar of the City Administrator’s Office.

Jimenez told the press briefing Monday that the executive order on the new traffic rerouting scheme was still in the process of approval by the mayor.  Once approved by the mayor, the proposed one-way scheme will be implemented on experimental basis for 15 days for public awareness and information purposes.

As proposed, the one-way streets are: Climaco Ave. to Ledesma St up to Alejo Alvarez St. Buenavista St to Normal Road in Baliwasan, from Castillo Road to Suterville up to San Roque; from Suterville wall the way down to Raja Soliman to Baliwasan Seaside to junction of Baliwasan Chico.

Also to be declared one-way is from Fire Station at Mayor Climaco to Gov. Alvarez, and Varela St., among many other streets. The plan will also include other streets where “left turn” and “right turn” are not allowed.

Chief Insp. Albert Sta. Teresa of Police Station 11 said the new scheme is expected to cause inconvenience to some people but it is expected to benefit more others as the objective is to decongest vehicular traffic in the city.-(Vic Larato)
