The 901st Maritime Police Station has seized 12 wooden hull motorized pumpboats during its intensified field operation over the weekend.

The seizure was made in line with a crackdown against unregistered pumpboats and those with expired permits.

Regional Maritime Unit-9 Chief Sr Supt Pedro Soliba said that the seized pumpboats mostly have expired documents and no registration.

The operation was made in coordination with the City Agriculturist Office.

Soliba said that Maritime troopers face difficulty and hardship in conducting their operation when they encounter rough seas and huge waves.

He however said that the operation will be continuous due to reports that these pumpboats are used by lawless elements in their illegal activities.

Meanwhile, Soliba also thanked the provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur for lending a back up wooden hull pumpboat to the Maritime Police in Pagadian city.

Soliba has directed his men to be extra careful and alert at all times in the conduct of seaborne operations.  (Allen Abastillas)
