COMMAND PUBLIC INFORMATHeadquarters WestMinCom, Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City-February 15, 2017- Top officials of the military and local government agencies discussedyesterdaythe prospectivemeasures to address security concerns inMindanao in a meeting initiated by President Rodrigo Dutertewith the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in Sultan Kudarat.

The special meeting was called by the President to let local chief executives conceptualize measures to improve the peace and order within the islands of Mindanao. On behalf of the President, Undersecretary Austere Panadero of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) officiated the said meeting along with the governors and mayors from the different provinces and cities in Mindanao.

After the special meeting, local chief executives are expected to produce a plan on how to battle economic problems and threats within their respective jurisdiction.

Among those present were Major General Carlito G. Galvez, Jr., Commander, Western Mindanao Command, as guest speaker; regional directors of the DILG; and other high-ranking officials of the military, police and other government agencies.

Major General Galvez presented an operational update of the joint area of operations of the Command, which included a briefing on the security threats being confronted by the WestMinCom, aswell as on the capabilities of the threat groups and the accomplishmentsof the troops as a result of the intensified conduct of focused military operations in Western and Central Mindanao.

Stressing the need for multi-sectoral collaboration, Major General Galvez urged the heads of government agencies and security sectors to participate in the continuing efforts of the national government and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to contain extremist groups and deter criminalities in Mindanao, which continue to hamper the peace and order in the area.

“With the limited time, we can’t do it all alone as we need to have strong partnership with the LGU, religious and traditional leaders,” said Major General Galvez. “We also need strong strategic alliance with the other groups like the MILF and MNLF and to develop Socio-Economic Strategies to provide livelihood and spun economic activities in depressed areas.  There is also a need to employ precision engagement to destroy the core group of all terrorist groups.”

Major General Galvez also expressed his support to the programs and campaigns of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) against the proliferation of illegal drugs in the regions of Mindanao.

Held at the King Hall, Provincial Capitol in Sultan Kudarat, the meeting was attended by Superintendent IreneoDalogdog of the Philippine National Police- Maplo andEP. Director General Jesus Fajardo of the PDEA as guest speakers.

The RPOC chairpersons present wereGovernor Jayvee Tyron Uyof Region XI; Governor Pax Mangudadatu of Region XII; Governor MujivHataman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM); Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar of Region IX; and Mayor Oscar Moreno of Region X.

Also elected  were Congressman Datu SuhartuMangudadatu; Mayor Ronnel Rivera from General Santos; and Mayor Frances SayadifromCotabato City.
