A new shipping line will service the Zamboanga to Lamitan route to ease congestion of other vessels due to the large number of people taking the trips.

Lamitan Vice Mayor Roderick Furigay said that they have talked to officials of a shipping line from Manila for additional trips that will be offered to Lamitan passengers.

Councilor Joaquin Puri Jr, Lamitan legislator, authored a resolution that was approved by majority of council members for the entry of the new shipping line.

Lamitan city Port Manager Erwin Cervantes also welcomed the entry of the new player saying that shipping transportation in Lamitan is very limited.

There are only three trips which service the Lamitan to Zamboanga city route each day.

Vessels are sometimes overloaded due to the big number of passengers taking the trips.

Some passengers even go the circuitous route and pass by Isabela city just to avail of the hourly trip offered by Isabela city shipping lines going to Zamboanga, Cervantes said.  (Allen Abastillas)
