A Zamboanga city kagawad who figured in a shootout with a policeman last year is facing charges for Ilegal Possession of Firearms after a raid in his house in Baliwasan Grande at dawn yesterday.

A Poilce Regional Office-9 report identified the kagawad as Benhar T. Arabani, Barangay Councilor of Baliwasan.

According to the report, a raid was conducted at around 2:30am in the house of Arabani by police elements composed of Zamboanga Police Station 11 headed by Supt Ariel Huesca.

Other units involved in the raid are the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company and troops from the Philippine Army.

Police recovered a box containing 31 rounds of live ammunition, a .45 caliber pistol, three magazines loaded with 29 live ammunition and a hand grenade.

The raid was conducted on the strength of search warrant 2016-129 for violation of PD number 1866.

It will be recalled that Arabani figured in a shootout with SPO4 Abdurrahman Estino last August.

In the same month, Zamboanga City Police Office Chief Sr Supt Luisito Magnaye formed Special Investigating Task Force Estino to investigate the alleged involvement of the latter in smuggling activities.

Estino, together with then Zamboanga City Mobile Police Chief Supt Ariel Huesca, was implicated in smuggling activities in Zamboanga by Department of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol.

Magnaye also formed Special Investigating Task Force Huesca after the latter was implicated by Piñol.

Magnaye is head of the Special Task Force. (E-media)
