Athletes from the Zamboanga Polytechnic University have expressed dismay over the cancellation of their flight to Manila yesterday which prevented them from arriving to the sporting venue on time.

Armil Alnoche, ZPU teacher, said that school athletes from the baseball and women’s softball team were scheduled to depart for Manila yesterday to attend a sporting event in Lipa, Batangas.

The athletes however failed to arrive to their destination after the cancellation of their Cebu Pacific flight.

Alnoche said that the school paid a P23,000 fee for a bus to take the teams to Lipa, Batangas.

Fifty percent of the amount was said to be forfeited after the teams failed to arrive in Manila on time.

Alnoche said that they do not have excess money to shoulder the forfeited amount since they only have enough allowance for the trip.

Alnoche said that he hopes that the amount can be reimbursed to the school.

Based on a statement issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP,) at least three flights were cancelled after a construction grader broke down and blocked the runway.  (E-media)
