Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar asked Councilor Rodolfo Bayot to immediately remove a “landmark” along the Zamboanga city by-pass road that was put up to mark the area where a 20-year old was killed last January.

The landmark is located along the Lunzuran portion of the by-pass road, the same spot where 20-year old Erica Jane Rosal was brutally raped and murdered last January.

Climaco’s order was issued after several complaints were aired over the reported construction.

Climaco said that although the construction is covered by a council resolution, it should nonetheless be removed because of its location along the by-pass road.

The construction of markers and other structures along the by-pass road is governed by rules of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH,) the agency responsible for all construction and repair work on the highway.

Recall that a resolution was proposed by Councilor Rodolfo Bayot two weeks ago, to put up a marker at the location where coed Erica Jane Rosal was found dead.

Resolution No. 123, authored by Bayot, was seconded by his partymates and eventually passed after getting the nod of fourteen members of the City Council.

The resolution also proposed to include an explanation on the marker which states:

On the 9th day of January 2017, a girl was raped and murdered in this place.”

It was reported that even before the approval of the resolution, Bayot had already constructed the marker.  (Bhong Simbajon)
