At least 300 policemen facing various administrative offenses are scheduled to arrive today in Zamboanga.

The policemen will reportedly arrive via a C-130 flight at the Edwin Andrews Airbase prior to their deployment to Basilan province.

During her press briefing yesterday, Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar appealed to Police Regional Office-9 Regional Director Billy Beltran not to deploy any member of the group of rogue cops to Zamboanga city.

“We will make sure that we will not be receiving them,” Climaco- Salazar said.

A Zamboanga police official however said that no one among 353 policemen scheduled to arrive in Zamboanga will be assigned to the city.

“All 353 will be assigned to Basilan,” said the police official.

Isabela and Lamitan city officials have also expressed their opposition to receiving the rogue cops.

Recall that the Coast Guard suggested during an informal briefing to assign the rogue cops to Sibago Island, an island with reported incidents of piracy.

In a previous statement however, Basilan Provincial Police Office Chief Sr Supt Nickson Muksan said that he will be assigning the policemen to combat illegal gambling operations in Basilan and to do foot patrol.  (Liza Jocson)
