A member of the Abu Sayyaf group was killed during a shootout with authorities in Tawi Tawi last Sunday afternoon.

Western Mindanao Command Spokesperson Capt Jo-ann Petinglay identified the suspect as Al Abdullah, a Tawi Tawi- based spotter of the Abu Sayyaf group.

According to Petinglay, Abdullah was invited for questioning by members of the Joint Task Force Tawi Tawi who were then conducting maritime security patrol in the area.

The Task Force was acting on reports about the presence of armed men in the area.

During questioning, Abdullah admitted being the owner of the house where armed men were spotted and was also one of those who residents reportedly saw.

Later that day, Authorities allowed Abdullah to leave after the latter asked for permission to go home.

The suspect returned after several minutes however and fired towards authorities with an M-16 rifle that he brought.

Abdulla was killed in the ensuing firefight.

During questioning, Abdullah identified other members of the Kidnap for Ransom Group as Absar, Man Baudi and Musub Baudin. (E-media)
