Only 54 out of about 300 policemen facing administrative charges arrived in Zamboanga yesterday en route to Basilan province for deployment.

The policemen arrived via a C-130 plane which touched down at the Edwin Andrews Airbase runway at around 8:45 Tuesday.

The group of policemen was received by ARMM Police Regional Office Commander Chief Supt Theordore Sindac and police personnel from the ARMM and the Basilan Provincial Police Office.

In an interview, Sindac said that policemen who failed to show up for deployment will be placed on Absence without Leave (AWOL.)

The policemen underwent processing in Zamboanga city prior to being brought to the Basilan Police Provincial Office.

They were taken in two 6X6 military trucks to the Majini Pier at the Western Mindanao Command to board the Navy vessel for Basilan.

Sindac said that the group will initially form a Task Force for purposes of being accounted and monitored by the Basilan Provincial Police Office.

After their arrival, the group will undergo a medical check up and a socio-cultural orientation prior to their deployment to the different municipalities.

The policemen will be deployed in Basilan for a term of two years.  (Liza Jocson)
