TODAY’S MANNA

BY Berlie G. Yap

“The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. You, O LORD, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever. On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man.” (Ps. 12:6-8, ESV)

The Bible, or the Holy Scripture, was written in a span of about 1,600 years by different men in different times; in different places and different circumstances, as those same human vessels were moved by God. There were at least 44 writers, whom God used to pen the Bible. Each of them was under HIS inspiration when they wrote their contributions. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” (2 Tim. 3:16)

They were farmers, kings, soldiers, prophets, fishermen, singers and etc. Their names were Moses, David, Heziah, Asaph, Paul, Peter, John and the rest. The word BIBLE is derived from the Greek word BIBLOS, which literally meant a library of books. Well, the Bible has 66 books, all in all, covering from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation. It is also divided into two testaments—the Old Testament (OT) and the New Testament (NT).

The OT was written many years, in fact hundreds of years yet, before the actual birth of Christ; whereas the NT was also written after his crucifixion or death at the Cross. The OT is mostly the history of God’s chosen people—the Hebrews or the Jews. It also contains hundreds of prophecies of the coming birth of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ, which can especially be found in Isaiah. It has detailed and very graphic records of end time prophecies, like in the book Daniel.

The Bible is indeed unique, one of its exceptional facts is: most of its writers didn’t meet, but the great awe is that you can never find any single contradiction in the holy Book. In fact, one verse complements to another. The Creator used holy men to scribble His Word, but its very author is God (or the Holy Spirit) Himself.

The theme of the Holy Book is John 3:16. Bible scholars just simply call it as the heart of the Scriptures, It says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but will have eternal life.” (KJV) Another trivia, such passage is the most memorized verse in the whole world, and maybe also in the entire history.

John 3:16 is also called the GREATEST verse—GOD as the greatest person; SO LOVED is the greatest affection which is ever spoken; THE WORLD the greatest number because it speaks the whole human race; THAT HE GAVE, the greatest act; HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, the greatest gift and sacrifice; THAT WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM, the greatest challenge; and WILL NOT PERISH BUT WILL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, the greatest promise.

Friend, God loves you. He knocks at the door of your heart, every single day. He thus waits that you will open, so that He can come inside, to stay in with you forever. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” (Rev. 3:20, ESV)

Are you willing to give your life to Him? You may repeat this prayer sincerely: “God Almighty, thank you for the love, I give my life to you. I open my heart to Jesus and receive HIM as my personal Savior. Forgive me from all of my sins. Cleanse me by His blood. Beginning today I’m already all yours. Amen”

If anyone may ask you if where is God, then you can reply beginning today that he’s both in heaven and in your heart. God is so great that the entire heaven is only His throne-room, while the planet earth is also His footstool. But He can also be that tiny to stay inside your heart. Nice, ain’t it?
