OCD opens search for Gawad Kalasag PDF Print E-mail

The Office of Civil Defense Regional Office 9 has opened its search for the 2016 Gawad Kalasag (Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan) to its stakeholders in the region.

The program aims to award organizations who have shown excellence in disaster risk reduction management programs.

The OCD Regional Selection Committee has met last February 22 and is now ready to receive applications until tomorrow, February 28.

Applicants have to pass the desk and field validation processes before moving on to the deliberation stage.

The awards will be given on the month of July to coincide with the National Disaster Consciousness Month.

Winners will receive a plaque and cash prizes ranging from P15,000 to P50,000.

A plaque of recognition will also be given to heroic and special recognition awardees.

Sharva Hamsi, OCD-9 Civil Defense Officer 1, said that the program was designed to encourage participation of various stakeholders in crafting and implementing DRRM-related policies, strategies and programs to protect or shield hazard prone communities from the adverse impacts of natural and human-induced calamities.

The Regional Selection Committee is composed of representatives from the Philippine Red Cross, the Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Phiippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration; Commission on Higher Education; Philippine Volcanology and Seismology; Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Mines and Geosciences Bureau; Bureau of Fire Protection; Department of Science and Technology; Department of Education; Police Regional Office-9; Department of Public Works and Highway and ZABIDA.(RG Antonet Go)
