Police Supt Ledon D. Monte has taken over the 5th Special Action Battalion command from outgoing commander Supt Reynald Ariño during turnover ceremonies held yesterday at the 5th Special Action Battalion Headquarters in Mercedes.

The turnover ceremony was personally witnessed by Special Action Forces Director Police Director Benjamin Lusad who arrived from Manila to spearhead the ceremony.

Monte is the former chief of the SAF Provisional Battalion created to secure the New Bilibid Prison facility in Muntinglupa.

Monte takes over from Supt Ariño, the longtime 5TH SAB Commander who has seen his team through the most challenging times.

In his speech, Gen Lusad lauded Ariño for his efforts in leading the battalion for the past seven years saying, “ the 5th SAB will not be where it is today if not for your sacrifices and efforts.”

Prior to the turnover, Ariño was given the Medalya ng Kasanayan.

Lusad also expressed confidence on Monte’s leadership and credited him for transforming a corrupt and undisciplined New Bilibid Prison into being a Spartan- like facility.

For his part, Monte vowed to build upon the accomplishments achieved by the outgoing commander.

“I will not fail the SAF,” vowed Monte in his speech.

Lusad called on the members of the 5th Special Action Battalion to rally behind and support the new Commander.  (Liza Jocson)
