5 Abus killed, 11 soldiers wounded in Sulu Print

Five members of the Abu Sayyaf group were killed while 11 soldiers sustained injuries in fresh encounters in Indanan Sulu Wednesday afternoon.

Western Mindanao Command Spokesperson Capt Joann Petinglay said that the encounter occurred when troops of the 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion engaged the Abu Sayyaf in a firefight in Barangay Bud Taran, Indanan, Sulu yesterday.

Sources said that the Abu Sayyaf suffered five fatalities.

Eleven soldiers were wounded, ten of who sustained minor injuries from shrapnel.

Close air support and casualty evacuation were delivered by the 3rd Air Division, Philippine Air Force.

The encounter occurred during military operations to rescue the remaining kidnap victims in the hands of the Abu Sayyaf. (Dan Toribio)
