District 2 Congressman Erbie A. Fabian has called on Mindanaoans especially Zamboangueñosto stay vigilant on the current peace negotiations between the Aquino administration and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

“We have to be aware and vigilant in this peace negotiation between the incumbent Aquino administration and the MILF. We fully support  peace negogtiation with the MILF to attain a lasting peace and development in the region but we as always do not want that our beloved Zamboanga City to become part of any autonomous region,” Fabian told reporters in an interview.

Congressman Fabian sounded this call after President Noynoy Aquino and MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim met last Thursday night  in a hotel near Narita Airport, Japan. The meeting of the two leaders lasted for about two hours, Malacanang bared.

No further details of the meeting were made public, except that the two leaders were reported to have agreed “to fasttrack” the GPH-MILF peace negotiation, which is tentatively scheduled in the latter part of this month.

Fabian stressed that although Mindanaons considered such meeting as a welcome development for peace and development, they must also reiterate their stand that any negotiations between the GPH, MILF panels must be in done within the framework of the Constitution.

For instance, he pointed out the sentiments of the Zamboangueño people, that ever since they are for exclusion from  any future autonomous region or the expanded Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

“As we have been reiterating time and time again that Zamboanga City does not in any way want to become part of the expanded ARMM or any Bangsamoro Juridical Entity,” Fabian stressed.

It can be recalled that Fabian and Mayor Celso L. Lobregat, fought hard to defend the position of Zamboanga City in the past where the latter also filed a petition with the Supreme Court asking the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) entered between the Arroyo administration and the MILF  to declare it illegal and unconstitutional.

Fabian said like before, Zamboangueños again should stay vigilant, as he also called on the Aquino administration to be fully transparent in any peace talks with the MILF.
