LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Train the child in the way that he should go, and he will never depart from it even if he grows old…” (Proverbs 22:6, the Holy Bible).

STUDENT PAINTING CONTEST TO MARK ROTARY FOUNDATION’S “100 YEARS OF DOING GOOD IN THE WORLD”: What would it be like for a collegiate fine arts student to be recognized as a champion painter in a painting contest that Rotarians are staging to celebrate the Rotary Foundation’s “100 years of doing good in the world”, with the generous support of the country’s top patron of the arts, Ayala Corporation, and of top radio and TV stations and respectable newspapers as media partners?

We will soon find out, on account of the launching next week, March 09, 2017, of the “Art Serving Humanity” painting contest of the Rotary Club of Intramuros, which is one of the 100 or so clubs of Rotary International District 3810 that covers Manila, Pasay City, Cavite and Occidental Mindoro.

Angelina Domingo Mauricio, my wife who is the All Star President of RC Intramuros, said the painting contest will run between March 09, 2017, on the day of its launching, until the completion of its final selection process for the winning painting entries on June 01, 2017, which actually marks the 100th year of the Rotary Foundation’s establishment. District 3810 Gov. Ernesto D. Yuyek approved the holding of the contest.

CONTEST TO ENCOURAGE PINOY KIDS TO DEVELOP ART TALENT: Technological University of the Philippines Professor Dr. Meliton Baccay, the chair of RC Intramuros’ humanitarian services, has been tapped to lead the committee that will oversee the holding of the painting contest from its start to finish. Baccay announced that the contest is open to all fine arts students from Metro Manila schools, colleges and university, in a bid to encourage Filipino kids to hone their painting and art talents.

The painting entries will focus on what the Rotary Foundation has done towards the fulfillment of the so-called six areas of focus of all Rotary every Rotary year (which starts on July 1 of each year and ends on June 30 of the succeeding year)—which are peace and conflict prevention and resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, and economic and community development.

The Rotary Foundation is a separate non-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. The Foundation was started by Arch C. Klump in 1917. Klump was a president of Rotary International.

RULES ON PAINTING CONTEST: Entries should be submitted at the Office of the Graduate Programs and External Studies, 2nd Floor Center for Academic Programs, Technological University of the Philippines, Ayala Blvd., San Marcelino St., Manila, on or before May 05, 2017.  For more information, interested parties may call or email Dr. Bacay at 0998 202 4606, and

All Star President Angelina Mauricio on the other hand disclosed that Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin, PTV 4 and Radyo Agila’s DZEC are now officially accredited as the media partners of RC Intramuros for the project. She said that other patrons, donors, and supporters are expected to assist towards a successful completion of the contest.

The launching of the painting contest on March 09, 2017 at the Ilustrado Restaurant in Intramuros, Manila, coincides with the celebration of the 36th Charter anniversary of the Rotary Club of Intramuros, where the Club is scheduled to honor its past presidents who have continued helping it in its varied charitable and humanitarian projects.
