The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Office-9 is planning to send 20 tons of surplus tamban to Luzon in line with the Philippine Food Skyway project.

The Philippine Food Skyway is a government program characterized by a regional exchange of prime commodities.

The Philippine Food Skyway aims to bring Mindanao’s fruits to Metro Manila, Baguio’s vegetables to the Visayas and Mindanao and fish from Zamboanga, Basilan, Tawi Tawi and Sulu to Cebu and Manila.

“This is part of the program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary that yung champion product natin dito like yun surplus sa tamban ipapadala natin sa Luzon,” explained Atty Benjan Ilahan,  BFAR Chief Fishery Management Regulatory Enforcement Division Chief.

tamban from Region 9 will be sent via a Philippine Air Force C-130 plane to Baguio and Manila in exchange for surplus products such as vegetables from these areas.

Ilahan said that the exchange may take place by the first quarter of this year.  (RGAAGo)
