One person died while several others were injured after two trucks collided along the National Highway in Barangay Sulangon, Dapitan city last Thursday.

A Police Regional Office-9 report said that the collision happened when a blue Isuzu ten-wheeler truck with plate number YHZ 295 and a six- wheeler cargo truck with plate number YDK 116 were going towards opposite directions along Sitio Tutua, Barangay Sulangon, Dapitan city at around 9:30am.

The blue truck, loaded with 10 cubic meters of gravel, was travelling from Dipolog city going towards Dapitan while the six-wheeler truck, loaded with assorted vegetables,  was travelling from Cagayan de Oro towards Dipolog city.

Upon reaching a curve along the highway, the blue truck suddenly encroached on the opposite lane and collided head on with the six-wheeler truck.

Pedro Arnado Villadolid, 40  years old, a resident of Minaog and a passenger of the six-wheeler truck died on the spot.

The drivers of both trucks and their respective passengers were rushed to the hospital for treatment of injuries on various parts of the body.

The driver of the Blue Isuzu ten-wheeler truck was identified as Angilito Mintalar Jamin, 37 years old, married and a resident of barangay Kahayagan, Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur.

Jamin’s passenger was identified as a certain Nonoy, 19 , a resident of barangay Goripan, Mahayag Zamboanga del Sur.

The driver of the six-wheeler cargo truck was identified as Noel Pabalay Velasco, 51 years old, married and a resident of Upper Turno.

Velasco’s passengers are the following:  Peter Bugas Aseniero, Jeamwel Codezar Marikit, Pedro Arnado Villadolid Jr; Reno Erosido, Job Pableo, and Jerry Adjanan Quienquez.

Jamin, who sustained a slight injury on the left hand, voluntarily surrendered to the Dapitan Municipal Police Station. (Liza Jocson)
