Police are checking hospitals in the city to check for Abu Sayyaf members who may be seeking treatment for injuries sustained in continuous firefight between government troops and the bandits in Basilan and Sulu.

Zamboanga Police Station 11 Commander Supt Ariel Huesca said that the police are conducting several measures to ensure that the firefight in nearby provinces are confined to these areas and do not spill over to the city of Zamboanga.

Huesca said that the police has also intensified the implementation of the pumpboat ordinance.

“Yun pumpboat na hindi registered, expired at walang markings, we will confiscate the engine,” said Huesca during a city hall press briefing.

The police is also reportedly doing continuous evaluation and deployment based on information gathered from the intelligence community.

Operations in the province of Sulu were intensified following the decapitation of German National Juergen Kantner last February 26. (RGAAGo)
