Nearly 1,000 deportees have arrived in the city of Zamboanga since January this year.

According to Department of Social Welfare and Development records, a total of 411 deportees arrived last February 15.

Of this number, 331 are men while 80 are women.

This was followed by at least 430 deportees who arrived last March 1.  Of this number, 269 are male, 122 are female while 39 are children.

Records state that the office has spent nearly a million pesos to care for the deportees.

Based on DSWD records, the office has spent a total of P495,000 last February and P289,000 last March in providing the deportees’ basic needs and processing requirements.

Most of the deportees who arrive in the city are natives of Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi Tawi.

Some of the deportees also come from Cebu, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Cavite and other parts of Palawan.  (RGAAGo)
