Three persons were killed in an ambush allegedly perpetrated by suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Purok 4, barangay Dampalan, Pagadian City, Tuesday afternoon.

Police Regional Information Officer, Supt. Rogelio Alabata identified the fatalities as Alipio Banogon Andus, 39, married, Ariston Obaran Paroc, 46, and Julieto Bolo Candao, 28, all married and residents of the same place.

The victims sustained multiple bullet wounds in their body and died on the spot.

Merlin Paroc, wife of Ariston, told the police that they were walking to their respective homes coming from their farm at around 5:00 p.m. when she saw ten to fifteen persons armed with rifles seated along the road.

Merlin said she walked ahead of her husband and their two companions and after making a few steps, she heard gun fires. When she turned her face, she saw her husband and their two companions already lying on the road, bloodied.

When policemen arrived in the crime scene, barangay officials turned over to them 40 pieces of spent shells of 5.56 caliber, and a piece of yellow paper with a written message, “para sa katawhan, rebolusyonaryong partimbaya! si Ariston Parok gisilotan sa kamatayon gumikan sa krimen: 1. pagpangilog og yuta, ug 2. pagpapatay sa 4 ka tawo pinaagi sa pagsuhol mga gipatay: a. Lito Gasip B. Honorato Miadas Jr. nahukman siya sa hukomang bayan niadtong marso 3, 2017 New people’s Army Zamboanga Del Sur Operations Command, Zamboanga Peninsula Region.”

Police have launched a hot pursuit operation against the gunmen who escaped after the incident. – Dan Toribio
