An incident earlier reported as an abduction in barangay Tetuan turned out to be a custody battle for a 5-year old girl, according to the Tetuan police.

Tetuan Police Station Commander Supt Nonito Asdai said that this was confirmed by the father of the 5-year old girl himself who informed police that the alleged victim was already in his custody.

The incident was reported by the girl’s father to Asdai over the phone.

Reports of an abduction incident circulated after the grandmother of the five-year old girl reported four men snatching her granddaughter as they were about to ride their service vehicle yesterday.

The girl was brought by the four men to a waiting vehicle which quickly sped away.

It turned out however, that the girl was merely taken into custody by her father, who was reportedly not in good terms with his wife, the victim’s mother.

There is reportedly a pending case in court for the girl’s custody.

Father Elmer Sumile, ICES School Director, meanwhile, described the incident as an isolated case.

Classes continued after the incident amid strict security measures were implemented by the school.

Sumile added that only those recognized relatives with identification cards are allowed to enter the school premises to fetch the children.

He added that the school is equipped with closed circuit television cameras and security personnel.  (Dan Toribio)
