In the observance of the 111th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary, one of the activities to be conducted is the holding of the national photography contest dubbed “Give It Your Best Shot! Photography Contest”.

The Contest hopes to capture through photographs the essence of public service at its best in the Filipino’s everyday life.
The photo contest is open to all public servants/government employees holding permanent positions – except employees of the Civil Service Commission and all government employees affiliated with the National Press Club (NPC) and Press Photographers of the Philippines (PPP).

Photographs must have been shot by the entrants since the start of the  term of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.  For a photo in which a person is recognizable, the photographer is responsible for securing permission from that person or, in the case of minor, from the subject’s parent or guardian.

The following photographs are disqualified:  Photographs that are digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered for creative purposes.  Altered images refer to Photographs manipulated and applied with special effects (colorizing, toning, collage, photo composites, HDR, etc.).  However, minor adjustments, including sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustment of the digital equivalents, are acceptable.  If the judges determine that the photographs has been digitally altered, the judges reserve the right to disqualify it.  Photographs that have been submitted to or won in any other contests or have been published in print or online are likewise prohibited so with photos that violates another person’s rights, including but not limited to copyright.

Any interested government employee can join the contest by submitting his/her entry/photograph together with the duly accomplished entry form to the Civil Service Commission Regional or Field Offices.  Only one (1) entry/photograph per entrant with the following requirements shall be accepted:   8R, color print, unmounted; JPEG Format File with a minimum size of 1MB in a Compact Disk.  All photos submitted shall become properties of the Commission.  By joining the contest, entrants grant the Civil Service Commission permission or license to use the photos, along with the names of the photographers, for various publications and marketing collaterals of the CSC, and for other purposes.

Top three (3) entries from this region will compete in the National Level to be held at the CSC – Central Office.  First Prize winner will receive a cash price of Ten Thousand Pesos, second Prize winner of Five Thousand Pesos, and the Third Prize will receive Three Thousand Pesos.  The top ten winning photos will be used for various publications and marketing collaterals of the CSC as well as exhibited in selected government galleries.  As an incentive to participants, all other entries will have the chance to be featured in CSC materials, along with the names of the photographers.

Acceptance of entries starts July 18, 2011 and ends August 17, 2011, at 5:00 PM. Awarding of winners will be in September 2011 within the month long celebration of the 111th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary.
