An Abu Sayyaf member in Sulu surrendered while another one was apprehended by government troops in Basilan, in continuing operations by troops under the Western Mindanao Command in the region.

Western Mindanao Command Spokesperson Capt Jo-ann Petinglay identified the surrenderor as Absara Mursalin Akbara aka Talin Amsang, 41 years old and a resident of Talipao, Sulu.

Akbara voluntarily surrendered last Sunday with his M-16 rifle to personnel of the 41st Infantry Battalion stationed in Sulu province at Sitio Palan, barangay Mampallam, Talipao, Sulu province.

Mursa reportedly decided to surrender as he felt that he was going to be the next target of operations by government troops.

Meanwhile, another Abu Sayyaf member was apprehended by soldiers of the 18th Infantry Battalion in Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan Province.

Petinglay identified the suspect as Abdul Musin Nur, a follower of Abu Sayyaf leader Furuji Indama.

Nur was apprehended at Sitio Block 4, Barangay Bohe Pahu, Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan at 11:30am yesterday.

Nur’s location was reported by a concerned citizen. (Liza Jocson)
