The City Tourism Office is holding its first Zamboanga City Barangay Forum at the Centro Latino in Paseo del Mar today.

The forum will bring together officials of the 98 barangays to orient them in the development of Zamboanga city’s tourism industry.

City Tourism Officer Sarita Hernandez said that the forum is focused on informing barangay officials on the different aspects of local tourism, capacitating the barangays in identifying tourism sites, assisting the barangays in tourism development and informing officials on potential opportunities for tourism in their respective areas.

Among the topics to be discussed in the forum are Tourism Legislation, Safety and Security, the city’s Land Use Plan, Environmental Protection and Conservation, Waste Management Program, Climate Change and Disaster and Risk Preparedness.

Hernandez expressed optimism that the forum will empower officials in working for the growth of Zamboanga’s tourism industry, which is right now in its developmental stage.

The forum, which has been organized for the first time under the Climaco administration, aims to further develop the city’s tourism industry and improve information  dissemination with the participation of baranay officials.

The whole-day forum is the first of a series of activities targeting tourism development and information involving local stakeholders initiated by the City Tourism Office under the leadership of Sarita Sebastian, City Tourism Officer.  (Liza Jocson)
