The Protected Area Management Unit (PAMU) has reported increasing visits to Sta Cruz Island over the years.

This is due to the islands accessibility which makes it easier now for most people to visit the island.

Based on PAMU records, the office registered 11,745 guests in the year 2012.

Visitors increased to 21,982 in the year 2013 but went down to 16,168 in 2014 after the 2013 Zamboanga siege.

Visitor arrivals have been in an upward trend since that time until the year 2016 when it reached 38,915 tourist visits.

Of this number, 80 of the guests are residents of the city, 5 percent are foreign tourists while the remaining 15% are domestic tourists.

The city government attributed the increase in tourist visits to the marketing and promotional efforts of the City and Regional Tourism Offices.

The beach was recently included by the National Geographic as one of the best beaches in the world. (RGAAGo)
