Around 4,000 enrollees are expected to participate in this year’s “Learn to Play a Sports Program 2017,”  under the city government’s 22nd Basic Sports Summer Camp.

The one month summer camp, which starts on May 1, will be open for children 8 to 15 years old.

Registration is free and forms are available at the City Sports Office.

Participants can choose from 26 sports programs:  Archery, Arnis, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Baseball/ Softball, Body Building, Bowling, Boxing, Chess, Dancesport, Football/ Futsal, Gymnastics, Judo, Karatedo, Muay Thai, Pencak Silat, Sepak Takraw, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling and Wushu.

City Sports Officer Cecilia Atilano said that the program aims to become an avenue for values formation as coaches will focus on discipline and sportsmanship.

Summer Learn to Play products include Zamboanguenio weightlifting Olympic greats Hidilyn Diaz and Nestor Colonia.

The city government will spend P1-million for the program.

At least 70 percent will go to the honorarium of the instructors, 20 percent for the equipment and 10 percent for miscellaneous expenses.

Last year, there were more than 2,700 participants who joined the program.  (RGAAGo)
