Col Leonel Nicolas took over the helm of Task Force Zamboanga from its former Chief Col Juvymax Uy in turnover rites last Tuesday.

Western Mindanao Command Chief Maj General Carlito Galvez said that Uy will be assigned to Basilan province after leading several rescue operations that resulted to the recovery of kidnap victims.

After the turnover, Nicolas immediately engaged the police and other sectors concerned in securing the city.

Yesterday, the newly designated Task Force Zamboanga chief held a command conference where he assessed the designation of his forces and the areas he wants secured.

He said that he also instructed his men to intensify intelligence gathering to thwart possible attempts by lawless elements to wreak havoc in the city.

“Tuloy tuloy ang ating land and seaborne patrols, 24/7,” said Nicolas.

Nicolas held several assignments in  Zamboanga Peninsula prior to being assigned as Task Force Zamboanga Commander.

Prior to his assignment, he served as Chief of Staff and Operations Officer for the First Infantry Division in Pulacan, Zamboanga del Sur.

He also held the position of 10th Infantry Battalion Commander in Buug, Zamboanga del Sur and was the 5th Infantry Battalion Commander in the Zampelan area. (Liza Jocson)
