At least four women were rescued from human traffickers in two separate operations in Zamboanga and Maguindanao.

Supt Christine Tan, Women and Children Protection Center Field Unit Chief said that a woman was rescued in Shariff Aguak in Maguindanao and three in Zamboanga city,

Tan said that a certain Pacan Omar was arrested for making a 19-year old female victim work under threat.

Tan coordinated with the local police and the barangay to rescue the victim who is now under police custody.

Omar was meanwhile detained pending the filing of charges.

Meanwhile, three women were rescued at the Zamboanga local port after police received information that they were on their way to Malaysia without the appropriate working documents.

The three women came from municipalities of Mahayag and Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur.

A certain Roena O. Sanchez is now held by police after reportedly recruiting the workers to work in Sandakan as waitresses.

The victims are now in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development undergoing de-briefing and counselling.  (Allen Abastillas)
