Thousands of residents of barangays Arena Blanco and Tictabon were served during a medical mission sponsored by the PNP 5th Special Action Battalion yesterday.

The all-in-one mission, dubbed as “Pulis Ko, Tagaligtas Ko,” was able to serve at least 5,000 residents of the two barangays.

Among free medical and dental services provided were pulmonary and pediatric examination, minor surgeries, circumcision, breast examination, ECG examination, blood sugar tests, eye check up with free reading eyeglasses and tooth extraction.

The mission also provided free services such as handwashing advocacy, legal clinic, birth registration, supplemental feeding, and free haircuts.

The team also gave out free rice packs, slippers, backpacks with school supplies, aprons for fish vendors, t-shirs for barangay tanods and free installation of the barangay bulletin board.

5th SAB Commanding Officer PSupt Ledon Monte said that the mission is in line with the 5th SAB’s vision of helping the less fortunate and the underprivileged.

Prior to the mission, the team conducted a survey among the different barangays in Zamboanga city to check on communities that need immediate assistance.

Arena Blanco showed the most number of problems which include health -related issues, improper waste disposal, lack of school facilities and broken infrastructure.

The 5th SAB then partnered with various sectors such as the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Rotary Club of Zamboanga West and several others to realize its goal.

This is a concerted effort to bring doctors, lawyers, businessmen and other service providers and public servants to work together with one advocacy, said Monte.

The 5th Special Action Battalion (5SAB) PNP Special Action Force is one of the National Support units of the Philippine National Police mandated to carry out tactical and combat mission in counter terrorism in the areas of Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi Tawi.  (LAJ)
