The Zamboanga city local government will observe the 75th Araw ng Kagitingan or Day of Valor through a program to be held at the Freedom Fighters Shrine along Rizal Street today.

This year’s commemoration will have the theme “Ika-75 taon:  Parangal sa mga Beterano Tungo sa Bayan na Nararapat sa Pilipino, Pilipino nararapat sa Bayan.”


In a City Hall statement, it said that Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar with representatives from the Western Mindanao Command, the 3rd Air Division, the Philippine Coast Guard, Regional Police Command and the Veterans Federation of the Philippines-9 will lead the flag raising ceremony at 7am.

The flag raising ceremony will be followed by a floral offering at the shrine and messages to be delivered by the City Mayor and other special guests.

The program was organized by the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office in partnership with the Zamboanga City Veterans District.

Araw ng Kagitingan, also known as the Day of Valor marks the heroism and bravery of Filipino fighters who have fought against Japanese forces during World War 2.

It is a national memorial day for the brave soldiers who fought during the Fall of Bataan on April 9, 1942 during World War 2.  (LAJ)
