A member of the Philippine Marines allegedly shot a 32-year old man in Cabatangan last Saturday.

Police identified the victim as Benson Esteban, a resident of Lower Cabatangan.

The gunman was identified as Sgt. Arnel Celis Sigue, 36, married,  a member of the Philippine Marines assigned at the Philippine Marines Reaction Force based in Jolo, Sulu and a resident of Cabatangan.

Initial investigation showed that Sigue shot Esteban near the Girl Scout Camp around 8:45pm.

Sigue surrendered to the Barangay Council of Cabatangan after the incident.

Officials then took the suspect to the Sta Maria Police Station for proper disposition.  The suspect also turned over his firearm to the police.

The victim meanwhile was brought to the Zamboanga City Medical Center for treatment. (Dan Toribio)
