A businessman was killed while his wife sustained gunshot wounds during a robbery  hold-up incident inside their residence in Kabasalan municipality, Zamboanga Sibugay last Saturday.

The victims were identified as Noel Cavallero y Dio, 55, a businessman and a retired Philippine Army member and Ronelyn Legara y Agravante, 35, a rubber buyer cashier.

Investigation showed that the two victims were in their home together with their son Denmart when three unidentified suspects wearing bonnets barged inside the house.

The suspects then shot Noel resulting to his instantaneous death.

This prompted Ronelyn to grab their M16 rifle and try to retaliate but stopped when  one of the suspects pointed a gun towards Denmart.

Ronelyn decided to surrender the gun in exchange for her son’s liberty.

A suspect took the gun and shot the female victim with his own firearm before carting away an estimated P100,000 in cash.

Legara sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, a Police Regional Office-9 report said that another rubber buyer cashier was robbed just outside the victims’ house.

The victim was identified as Helen Anora, of legal age, married and a resident of barangay Sta Clara, Naga.

Anora was robbed by the suspects at gunpoint of P220,000 in cash.

The suspect fled towards the hinterlands of barangay Sininan, Kabasalan.  (with reports from Liza Jocson)
