Sixteen persons, including policemen, sustained injuries when a 6x6 PNP truck crashed in barangay Labuan after attending a burial of a policeman who was killed in a shootout, in Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte, last Wednesday afternoon.

City Police Office Information Officer disclosed that the incident took place at around 4:45 p.m., when the PNP truck driven by PO2 Tarabi Fernandez of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company, crashed on the side of the highway in Flores Compound in Labuan.

It was learned that the vehicle experienced engine trouble and lost its brakes, causing the truck to crash into a fence.

Galvez said, the passengers of the truck just attended the burial of PO3 Zaide Pronto Tutuan, in Jatian, Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.

All the fifteen passengers, as well as the truck driver were injured and were taken to the hospital.

Tutuan expired in the hospital after he was shot in the head during a drug bust in Bilang-Bilang Island in Sitio Mulu-Muluan, Mercedes, last week.

The gunman who shot Tutuan was also killed while eight of his cohorts were arrested and several drugs were seized. – Dan Toribio
