Cargo vessel escapes piracy attack in Siocon PDF Print E-mail

A cargo vessel escaped a possible attack by pirates within the vicinity of Siocon municipality, Zamboanga del Norte yesterday morning.

Zamboanga Coast Guard Lt Commander Alvin Dagalea said that the incident was reported around 14 nautical miles from Siocon municipality at around 7:15 am Tuesday.

A cargo vessel, the MV Anabelle, was sailing in the area when 3 men aboard 2 motorized pumpboats tried to board the vessel.

The attack was evaded by the quick action of the Vessel Captain who maneuvered the vessel.  This prevented the armed men from boarding the vessel who thereafter made their quick escape.

The MV Anabelle was sailing with 19 crew members, including the Captain when the incident occurred.

The vessel was carrying cement from Liloy Zamboanga del Norte to Zamboanga city when the incident happened.

There were no passengers on board the vessel.

Dagalea said that police and military counterparts have launched their pursuit operations against the suspects.(Liza Jocson)
