Seven fishermen who were spotted arriving in the city last Tuesday night were placed under investigation after they were observed acting suspiciously after they docked in Mariki.

Police identified the fishermen as Rocky Pai y Carreon, 37, married, of Capual, Jolo, Sulu; Ambi Sayani y Taiyah, of Lantawan, Basilan; Almujir Anas y Gapih, 31, of Lantawan Basilan; Jeffrey Bermudes y Aripin, 35, of Capual, Sulu; Ramil Alim y Nasser, 28, of Upper Calarian; Maruji Taiyah Aling, 41, of Capual, Sulu; and Alnasri Banaru y Hijar, 19, of Manggal, Sumisip, Basilan.

Initial investigation showed that they arrived in Mariki onboard two pumpboats and docked near the house of Hja. Delma Ahadi at around 10 p.m.

Barangay officials who received information about their presence decided to seek assistance from the police for verification.

The seven fishermen were brought to the police station by policemen led by Insp. Eduardo Gatinao and Mariki Barangay Kagawad Hja. Mussah-Ambal Task Force Zamboanga officers headed by 2Lt. Jovirey Taño and Coast Guard personnel for verification.

The fishermen’s pump boats were temporarily placed under the custody of the police. (Dan Toribio)
