The wife of a soldier who was abducted and later killed by the Abu Sayyaf is appealing to President Rodrigo Duterte to give justice to her slain husband.

Ajija Jamiri Siraji made the appeal as the family was preparing interment rites for Anni, her husband who was decapitated by his captors.

Anni was buried at a Muslim cemetery in Zamboanga city yesterday, in line with Muslim religious practices to bury the dead within 24 hours after their death.

His interment coincided with a Muslim holiday, the Izra Wal Mi’Raj which was observed yesterday by the Muslim community.

Another relative, a cousin of Anni, is asking why the Abu Sayyaf targeted a member of their own group, a Tausug, and even brutally murdered him.

Ajija described her husband as a good man with no enemies.  She said she does not know of any reason why the Abu Sayyaf targeted her husband.

She said that she last heard from her husband Thursday morning when the latter called her up to tell her that he was going to buy chicken for him to take back to Zamboanga city.

The next call she received was from a relative informing her about the abduction.

A call from her husband’s cell phone that same afternoon confirmed the news the relative gave her.

Anni was an MNLF integree who went back to the fold of the government in 1997, according to Ajija.

She said that he had been sent to various places before his last assignment in Sulu where he died in the hands of the terrorists.

Anni left behind a three year old son.

Anni was the fifth and the only boy in the family.  His parents are both deceased.  He is set to be buried beside his parents.(LAJ)
