In a display of his all-out support of the city’s police force, Mayor Celso Lobregat turned over the new Police Station building in Culianan.

“We are once again witnessing another clear manifestation of how our local government headed by our beloved mayor, Celso Lobregat, show his support of the different sectors,” Culianan barangay chairman Gilbert Alvarez said in his opening message, elated with the newest gift from the city government.

In his message, Mayor Lobregat urged the entire Culianan police force to serve the eight barangays under their jurisdiction.
“No matter how beautiful your new ‘home’ is, I expect most of you would be patrolling the streets. If majority of you are at ‘home’ instead of on the streets, then we have a huge problem,” he reminded policemen.

Major Tendero, Culianan Police Station chief gratefully accepted the new police station, assuring the mayor to take care of the new building and, more importantly, to make Culianan and its neighboring barangays a safe place to live and do business.

The Culianan Police force was temporarily housed at the barangay’s postal office where, Major Tendero recounted, they often had to serve literally on their feet because of space limitations and lack of chairs.

The former Culianan barangay hall was initially slated only for rehabilitation/improvement. However, due to its state of dilapidation, the project was reclassified as a reconstruction and the P2.2M building was re-assigned as the barangay’s new police station.

With the unveiling of the new police station yesterday and the three-storey school building at the Culianan National High School two weeks ago, Mayor Lobregat further revealed plans for the rehabilitation/improvement of the barangay’s health center and social welfare office as well as the construction of new barangay halls in Pasobolong and Guisao.

The inauguration was also in line with the barangay’s fiesta celebration set for tomorrow, Tuesday, August 16.
The inauguration was also attended by Councilors Eddie Saavedra, Rey Candido, Percival Ramos and Rudy Lim, City Police Director Edwin de Ocampo, City Engineer Luis Vicente Despalo, Executive Assistant V Mario Roca, and officials from Culianan and neighboring barangays. — Claudine Uniana/City Hall PIO
