Some 200 kids from various barangays in the city proper availed of  free circumcision services or ”Operation Tuli” at the City Health Office compound, during the commemoration of the 96th Birthday of the first Lady Mayor of Zamboanga, the late Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat yesterday.

City Health Officer Dr Rodel Agbulos said that they have targeted only 200 kids mostly aged from 12 years old and above to avail of free circumcision services.

“Actually we have reached more than our desired quota of 200 only, many have pre-registered but we have also accommodated walk-ins after proper check-up,” Agbulos said.

Agbulos said that CHO has been doing this activity for more than 12 years now since Ma’am Caling became the city mayor .

“We give priority to children with ages 12 years old and above cay serca ya sila man teen-ager, and for psychological reasons cay no quiere sila tenta canila poreso ta manda ya sila man tuli dayun,” Agbulos said.

Dr. Agbulos thanked CHO partner agencies like the Rotary Club, Sangguniang Panlungsod, Ateneo de Zamboanga College of Medicine, Mayor Beng Climaco and Congressman Celso Lobregat who extended their assistance for the success of the said event yesterday.

The children who availed of the free circumcision services were given anesthesia and complete medicines to prevent infection.

They were also advised not to engage in strenuous activity, avoid extensive heat exposure, take a bath every day and to stay away from sea water in the meantime to avoid infection.

For his part, Congressman Celso Lobregat, who also supervised the conduct of the free circumcision yesterday, was impressed on the large turn-out of children who availed of this free medical service.

Lobregat assisted the CHO doctors and nurses in convincing the hesitant children to undergo the circumcision procedures.

“Every year as we celebrate Dia de Ma’am Caling, we conduct Operation Tuli, its summer now so many children avail of this.  I am glad that the CHO sustained this program,” Lobregat said.

The solon also thanked those who are one with his family in remembering the birthday of her mother who is considered a mother to all Zamboangeños. – Dexter Yap
