A Tourism-oriented application bested other proposed programs to win first place in the recently held Information Technology Caravan  held last week at a private college in the city.

The winning applications were among other IT-related activities presented during the recently-held Zamboanga City Information and Communication Technology ZICT Caravan and Hackaton held at a private university last week.

“This is one of the few events geared to cheer up the IT industry of Zamboanga city,” said Michael Lim, Zamboanga ICT Council President in an interview.

The “El Zamboangueño, is a tourism-oriented application which provides information to its users on the exact location of places in the city of Zamboanga.

The application was made by Ateneo de Zamboanga students Densel Serano, Vincent Adawil and Margarita Divina.

The students credited their mentor for their application and even vowed to make the application even better.

Meanwhile, four other applications were cited by program organizers during the program.

This includes a Tricycle application which addresses the perennial issue of overcharging tricycle drivers in Zamboanga city.

There was also an application called Occurrence, which can be used by users in reporting calamities.

The two other applications include a book selling application which gives information to users on where to buy books and a job seeker application which gives information to job hunters on vacant positions offered by companies.

Lim assured support to the students on their respective applications saying that he sees them as mentors one day.

He is also hoping for these future IT experts to build their companies here and provide job opportunities in Zamboanga so other students need not go to places such as Cebu, Davao and Manila.  (RGAAGo)
