One dies, 7 hurt as trike careens downhill Print

One person died while seven others were seriously injured after a tricycle hurtled downhill in a Pagadian city road last Monday.

A Police Regional Office-9 report identified the fatality as Andres Mancap y Econas, 52 years old, male, married and a resident of Panabo, Davao del Sur.

The tricycle driver was identified as Roberto Lacasa y Bacsarpa, 50 years old, widower and a resident of Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur.  He who was driving a Kasawaki Tricycle with plate number 090108 which figured in the accident.

Initial investigation showed that the tricycle was traversing the road of Barangay Gubang in Pagadian city on the way to Tukuran municipality when the accident happened.

Upon reaching a downgraded portion of the road at Purok Tisa, Baloyboan, the tricycle was said to have lost its brakes causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which fell down and rolled twice towards a road gutter.

Six passengers sustained serious physical injuries and were brought to the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center for treatment.

They were identified as Enriquita Albano y Mangoy, 37; Elvin Albano y Apac, 39; Lovely Keith Alvano y Mangoy, 3; Renante Babao y Manacap, 37; Mae Ann Babao Mancap, 12; and Rolando Babao Manacap, 41 and Andres Mancap.

Andres Mancap was later pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was arrested by responding PNP personnel and temporarily detained at the Pagadian City Police Station.  (LAJ)
