The proposed 7-year validity of Philippine passports is still pending before the House of Representatives.

This was confirmed by Department of Foreign Affairs-9 Officer in Charge Mashur C. Kunting who said that passport validity is still in the five years period.

Kunting said that the proposed bill to extend passport validity to seven years is still being deliberated on second reading.

The seven-year validity period for Philippine passports was proposed by President Rodrigo Duterte when he assumed the Presidency last year.

The rationale for the extension is to provide Filipino passport holders who are living and working abroad a longer time before renewing their passports.

“Maganda ito para hindi mahirapan ang mga passport holders,” said Kunting.  (Allen Abastillas)
