A total of 19 Abu Sayyaf members, four of who are followers of slain ASG leader Alhabsy Misaya, surrendered to authorities last Thursday in Basilan province.

Western Mindanao Command Spokesperson Capt Jo-Ann Petinglay said that 15 Abu Sayyaf members, two of who are sub-leaders, surrendered to Joint Task Force Basilan Commander Col Juvymax Uy in barangay Tumahubong, Sumisip Basilan Thursday morning.

The two sub-leaders are identified as Nur Hassan Lahaman aka Hassan and Sub Leader Mudz-Ar Angkun aka Mapad Ladjaman.  The two together with their followers surrendered to troops of the 64th Infantry Battalion in barangay Tumahubong Sumisip Basilan.

Mapad’s group operates in Sumisip while Hassan operates in Tuburan municipality.  The surrenderors also yielded several high powered firearms to the government.

Meanwhile, four other Abu Sayyaf members also surrendered to Basilan troops earlier this morning.

The four were identified as Patta Salapuddin aka Patta, Asbi Salapuddin, Sayyadi Salapuddin, and Arci Salapuddin of Barangay Basakan Hadji Mohammad Ajul Basilan.

The four are followers of the late Abu Sayyaf sub leader Alhabsi Misaya who was slain in a firefight with government troops in Sulu last week.

The four are suspects in the recent seajacking incident of the MV Super Shuttle tugboat last March 23.

The surrenderors have undergone processing and debriefing at the Basilan Provincial Police Office.
