A man allegedly stole a rented motorcycle and pawned the unit to serve as guarantee for 15 sacks of rice he got from a store in Sta Maria.

A Police Regional Office-9 report identified the suspect as Rolly Riola, male and a resident of Zone 1, Ayala, Zamboanga city.

According to the report, a single motorcycle belonging to Wilson Toba Carbonquillo was rented by the suspect to ferry him to the town proper from the west coast last Friday.

Upon reaching Malagutay and stopping to take snacks at a store in the area, Carbonquillo acceded to a request by Riola for the latter to borrow the motorcycle and fetch someone in the area.

The suspect however failed to return after a few minutes, prompting Carbonquillo to seek police assistance.

Both the victim and police were able to trace the motorcycle to a store in Governor Ramos Sta Maria, based on information given by the suspect’s wife.

According to the store owner, identified as Nahala Musa Sugana, the suspect left the motorcycle as a guarantee to be able to get 15 sacks of rice from the store.

The motorcycle was taken by police to Zamboanga City Police Station 9 for safekeeping.  (LAJ)
