The Department of Labor and Employment, Regional office 9 (DOLE-9) is reminding the 12,000 Special Program for the Employment of Student (SPES) workers in Region 9 to take extra precaution while working.

Ofelia B. Domingo, DOLE 9 Regional Director, issued the reminder the student workers in connection to the erratic weather condition being experienced in Zamboanga City.

“Sobrang init, may climate change, at minsan ulan. We are asking our SPES beneficiaries na mag ingat and make sure naisubmit ang pangalan niyo. Under the law, you are covered by GSIS in-case of accidents or illness in the course of your employment,” Domingo said.

The regional director also advised the students not to exceed their required working hours since they do not have overtime pay.

She also assured that the money for their wages is ready to be released  after their work. 60 percent of the worker’s salary will be paid by the employer agency while 40 percent will be shouldered by DOLE.

DOLE allocated P46 million budget for the 2017 SPES program in Region 9.

The student workers are be given the chance to work in government or private offices for 30 days and a maximum of 78 days. They will receive the minimum wage of P296.00 per day. (R.G. A A. Go)
